Laugh or Be Mad?
Yesterday, I posted this video titled “Laugh or Be Mad?”.
On our Facebook page, we got about 31 comments and it ranged from “I would be furious” to “that’s hilarious”. The interesting part is that I was expecting people to be more upset about the ‘marker drawing’ than the hair cut. I was personally concerned about any bad chemicals seeping into Grant’s skin (although it was a surgical non-toxic pen used on infants all the time).
The reaction made me wonder. There are specific events that we don’t want to miss with our kids (ex: first hair cut…first solids, etc). I wonder though, how much of it is influenced by how we were raised by our parents. Did you grow up with documentation of your first hair cut (the saved clipping, pictures, videos, etc)? If you were, I bet that you want to do the same for your baby.
As for me, the hair cut was not a big deal…at least in my perspective. I don’t have a clipping from mine as a baby or pictures or such. So, I don’t see it as big of a deal for my kids. However, I do have step-by-step documentation of all of my play performances, first tooth coming out, etc. So, I would be so upset if I didn’t get to put the money under my kids tooth fairy pillow and see their reaction.
Makes you think about how being a parent actually takes you back to being a child again. You either want to repeat what you loved…or even change what you disliked. Also makes you realize that how you raise your kids…will impact how they eventually parent. Interesting.
